Jeff's DIY: First Drink

Thanks for the tip! I found that this is very likely what happened. The temperature in the room I fermented in was too low. It needed at least another week before bottling most likely. I’ll probably be investing in a hydrometer next time.

The reasoning behind the chilling in the fridge longer is that supposedly the gases mix back into the fluids easier at cooler temp. The second one I opened wasn’t near as bad.

I’ve since went ahead and uncapped, let them run out for a bit, and recapped. They still have plenty of carbonation (just not as much beer).

Either way, next time I know!

Well, first drink of the new brew didn’t happen. Seems my bottles were overly carbonated. This resulted in lots of beer on the table and some up my nose (was getting a smell of the brew… whoops). I did get a small taste but it was so full of the sediment from the bottem of the bottle that it…

Refrigerating will not decrease the carbonation level that already exists, but it will slow down further yeast activity. Most likely you bottled before fermentation was complete, or added to much honey to your bottles. It’s possible you may have a few of the bottles explode if this is the case.
